Slide background

Dear Friends of Farmleigh,

Over the last 6 months the Board of Directors of The Farmleigh Fellowship has carried out a strategic review of our achievements over the last 4 years and our challenges ahead in keeping our programme relevant and attractive to both applicants and sponsors in Ireland and Asia . A total of 65 post-graduates have passed through the Farmleigh Fellowship programme and 80% are continuing to develop their careers in Asia, 12% in Ireland and 8% in the rest of the world. We owe a debt of gratitude to the Irish government, corporate sponsors, University College Cork and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and many private individuals for their continuous support. There is much to be proud of and a summary of our evaluation report can be reviewed here (or click here to directly download the report).

The next phase of The Fellowship was always going to be a challenge given the rapidly improving economic and employment situation in Ireland. With Irish employment rising, unemployment below 10% and with the strongest GDP growth since 2005, it quickly became clear that the original 2009 model of a postgraduate degree in Ireland and Singapore coupled with work experience in Asia was simply no longer attractive enough.

With this in mind, we have decided to scale back our activities and to focus on supporting our existing alumni by developing the Farmleigh Mentorship Programme. We believe there is plenty of scope within the Irish diaspora community throughout Asia to continue contributing by investing further focus on mentoring the alumni who wish to continue growing their careers in Asia.

The impact of this decision on prospective applicants and sponsors is regrettable as we are currently unable to continue to offer scholarships and work placements to young Irish professionals seeking to move to Asia. We hope that, in time, we can once again secure the necessary government support to re-launch, but until then, we have formally closed the programme.

Thank you for your interest in The Farmleigh Fellowship, and please contact us at if you have any further inquiries.

Yours sincerely,

The Farmleigh Fellowship Team
